ORGANISERS of the 122nd Kilnsey Show and Sports are making the final preparations for this year's event on Tuesday, August 27.

There are more than 400 individual show classes, with over 80 trophies to be won and a total prize fund worth over £17,000 – of which £7,000 is competed for in the multi-breed sheep and cattle show classes.

Equine show classes will be in the main arena, including an eventing demonstration which proved popular when staged for the first time last year.

Displays include angling on the River Wharfe, sheep shearing, Ben Potter and his falconry display, John and Lou Close with their Langstrothdale Gun Dogs, and the fire brigade demonstrating emergency rescue skills.

Rural displays include the annual sheep dog trials, dry stone walling, farm crops, vintage tractors, young farmers' sheep judging competitions and the educational and humorous Sheep Show.

A packed children's marquee features educational and fun events and there will also be a Farmers Market, crafts marquee and cookery theatre.

Mid-afternoon sees the start of Kilnsey Sports, with the main attraction the famous crag races.

Gates open to visitors at 9am. Cut-price advance tickets priced at £10 are available from secretary Kathy Lambert on 01756 753259 or email info@kilnseyshow.co.uk. Gate prices are £12 for adults, £2 for children 16 years and under, with under-fives free.
