A top price of 6400gns, another at 5200gns, and another five selling for 4100gns or more – all for cow and calf outfits – were the highlights of a production sale from Stuart and Gail Currie’s Rathmell-based pedigree Beautry Beef Shorthorn herd, at Skipton Auction Mart.
Leading the trade was Beautry Desiree Portia, a three-year-old daughter of Stonehills Jackpot, out of Beautry Hibiscus, by the home-bred Excalibur. Portia, a prize winner at this year’s Great Yorkshire and Royal Lancashire Shows, sold with her January-born heifer by Fearn Godfather and having run with Jodame Nobleman, to online bidder Mark Day, of Ingleby Greenhow.

The next best at 5200gns was Beautry Tessa Mandolin, a five-year-old by Poyntington Himself. This third generation Ex-classified cow, bred from Beautry Tessa Flute, was sold with her fourth March-born Nobleman heifer calf, to Rathmell’s JD and JA Holgate.
Two Jackpot daughters sold for 4800gns with the first being the four-year-old, Beautry Shuna Narnia, the reserve champion female at Agri Expo 2019, whose sisters have sold to 11,000gns. Out of a Croxton Park dam, she sold with her third calf, an April-born Malfoy daughter, again to the Holgates.
Selling for the same money was the similarly aged, Beautry Blythesome Nutmeg, which was the champion female at the Agri Expo in 2019. She sold with her April-born Malfoy son, to Michael Daggett, who runs the Hartlington herd in the Yorkshire Dales village of the same name.
Beautry Tessa Mildred, a five-year-old daughter of Himself that stood runner-up at the Great Yorkshire and was a member of the group of three champions at the 2019 Royal Highland Show, made 4500gns. She sold with her fourth Nobleman-sired bull calf at foot to JC Bellerby, of Weeton, Harrogate.

Making 4300gns was Beautry Dewdrop Renaissance, a 2021 Malfoy-sired heifer, that sold with her April-born calf, again by Jackpot, to MJ Atkinson, of Burnley.
Renaissance’s 2019-born dam, a further third generation Ex-classified Jackpot daughter, Beautry Dewdrop Nightshade, out of a home-bred cow by Trojan of Craigeassie, sold with her third April-born Nobleman-sired heifer calf for 4200gns to GS and GI Pettit, of Fochabers in Morayshire.
Cow and calf outfits averaged £3911 with bulls cashing in at £2992.
