A CUMBRIAN show made a welcome return last month and saw an ‘amazing turnout’ according to organisers.
Last year’s Barbon Show had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, but the annual show returned on August 21 at Barbon Manor Park and was blessed by the weather.
The day included a sheep show, stick show, sheepdog trials, marquee lunch and children’s craft and sports.
Clare Thompson, Barbon show secretary, said the event saw a ‘great turnout’ of sheep, who were judged by William Dawson (Roughs), Ian Gornall (Mules & Leicester’s) and Will Ellison (Lowland and Fat Lambs).
James Sedgley won the Young Handlers Class, while Booth Bros won four trophies with their rough sheep, Ben Thompson won best lowland breed, A & H Watson won champion mule and JH Pedley won champion Leicester, and also overall champion.
Sheep dog trials this year saw more than 60 entries and the class was won by Victoria Graham.
The stick show had some ‘great entries’ too, with George Smithson winning the best exhibit and group of three sticks.
The children’s sports also had an ‘amazing’ turnout of children with plenty of youngsters taking part for the very first time.
Ms Thompson gave her thanks to those who made this year's show possible.
“A big thank you to our chair, Christine Denney who is handing over to Alan Watson after three years in the position,” she said.
“Also thank you to our vice president, John Stott and this year’s president, Hazel Watson for all your help, donations, and big part on the day.
“Barbon Show was again another great success and we thank everyone for their continued support and help over the years.”
