Catterick Young Farmers has handed over a cheque for £3,000 to the UK Sepsis Trust this month.

The club selected the charity in 2021 in memory of well-known young farmer Hannah Brown. From mid-2021 to mid-2022, members raised money through social occasions, such as a dinner dance and raffle at the Croft Hotel, a charity stock judging event, beetle drive and a netball evening, and they also sold logs.

Brian Davies, fundraising manager for UKST, gave an informative talk on March 7 where members learnt of the risks of sepsis and how to help prevent it.

On receiving the check Mr Davies thanked Catterick YFC and said: “£3,000 is a fabulous donation that will go along way to helping raise awareness in the farming community!"

Farmers are at an increased risk of becoming infected, so any cuts should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and covered before returning to work. Those displaying symptoms are urged to seek medical attention urgently.

Club president Kathy Pullan said she hoped the talk by UKST alerted members on how to detect the symptoms before it is too late.

Max Robinson, of the club said: "Recently, sepsis has really hit home in the farming community, after the sudden loss of Hannah Brown. We hope the money raised will help spread awareness and save many more lives."

The club continues to play an active role in the rural community this year, raising funds and awareness for The Farm Safety Foundation.

YFCs around the country have proved to be an integral part of the rural community collectively raising more than £1.2m for charity a year. In addition, providing young people with opportunities unique to YFC and giving back to their local community.

The club has had considerable success recently in the stock judging circuit and now their efforts turn to winning the district rally whilst also continuing to serve their community.

Catterick YFC always welcomes new faces. Next week's meeting is Tug of War Practice, kindly hosted by BC&J Wilson, Finghall.
