Two people have been released from hospital after a boiler explosion at the Wensleydale Creamery on Friday (September 13), as investigations into the incident have begun. 

Emergency services were called to the creamery site on Gayle Lane in Hawes, North Yorkshire at around 5.15pm, following reports of an industrial accident at the business, which is supplied by dairy farms across Wensleydale and includes a popular visitor centre. 

Ambulance, fire, and police attended the scene, with paramedics confirming that two people were taken to Airedale Hospital in Keighley with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services dealing with the incidentEmergency services dealing with the incident (Image: HAWES FIRE STATION) A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 16.58 on Friday 13 September to reports of a workplace accident at Wensleydale Creameries. An ambulance was dispatched, and two patients were conveyed to Airedale Hospital."

On Monday (September 16), Wensleydale Creamery confirmed the details of the incident and said that the two people involved had been discharged from hospital. 

A spokesperson for the company said: "Early on Friday evening, an incident took place in the boiler house at the Wensleydale Creamery. We immediately contacted the emergency services who responded quickly to the situation.

"Two people working at the site were taken to hospital to be assessed but have since been discharged.

"We alerted the relevant authorities and will work with them to investigate what happened."

The Health and Safety Executive is in the early stages of investigating the incident.

North Yorkshire Police said: "Emergency services have been dealing with a workplace accident at Wensleydale Creameries in Hawes.

"We were alerted to the incident at 5.13pm on Friday 13 September 2024.

"Ambulance, fire, and the police attended the scene. Two people were conveyed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"The Health and Safety Executive has been notified."

In images of the aftermath of the incident, the fire service issued a short statement and showed how its firefighters were dealing with the incident. 

After its involvement, Hawes Fire Station issued a statement: "Incident last night along with Reeth Station - North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"Boiler explosion, crews gave first aid to two casualties, isolated the electrics and fuel supply then applied water to the boiler to cool the area to avoid ignition of any oil at the scene. Site staff had given first aid before our arrival and did a fantastic job."
